The Changthang region, within Ladakh's administration, is a western extension of the vast Tibetan Plateau. Tibetan plateau is a land of nomads where life is deeply intertwined with nature. Here, the Changpa people live in harmony with their goats and yaks, preserving a way of life passed down for generations. This high altitude expanse, sitting above 4,000 meters, is the birthplace of the world renowned pashmina wool, known for its unmatched softness and warmth. Rugged yet beautiful, Changthang offers a glimpse into a unique and timeless culture shaped by the harsh but awe inspiring environment. Given its altitude, one should be well acclimatised to fully enjoy and safely explore this extraordinary land.
Cultural Encounters with Nomads: One of the highlights of this trek is the opportunity to interact with the Changpa nomads, who inhabit these high-altitude regions. Known for their traditional lifestyle and expertise in rearing pashmina goats, the nomads provide a glimpse into a centuries old way of life that is deeply connected to nature.
Wildlife Opportunities: This trek is also a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The region is home to a variety of rare and exotic species, including the elusive snow leopard, Tibetan wild ass (kiang), Himalayan marmot, and a multitude of high altitude birds.
Day 1: Arrive in Leh.
Day 2: Visit Tsemo and Shanti stupa and Leh Market.
Day 3: Visit Thikesy, Hemis Gonpa and walk to Gotsang.
Day 4: Drive to Yurutse, hike to Gandala.
Day 5: Drive to Rumtse and trek to Kyamar.
Day 6: Trek to Tisaling via Kymar la and Kartse la.
Day 7: Trek to Shibuk via Shibuk la.
Day 8: Trek to Riyul.
Day 9: Trek to Rachungkaru via Horlamkonka la.
Day 10: Trek to Gyama Barma via kamayuri la.
Day 11: Trek to Korzok phu via Yalung nyalung la .
Day 12: Drive to Leh.
Day13: Fly back to Delhi.
